Stanford T. Shulman, MD, is Virginia H. Rogers Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine and Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases; Chairman, Infection Control Committee; Medical Director, Microbiology Laboratory; and Director, Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship Program at The Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. His major interests are Kawasaki disease, streptococcal infections, and the history of medicine.
Dr. Shulman graduated from the University of Cincinnati and from the University of Chicago Medical School, was resident and chief resident in pediatrics at the University of Chicago, received additional training at the Institute for Child Health in London, England, and was a fellow in pediatric infectious diseases and immunology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Shulman is certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He is past Chair, member of the Executive Committee, and Chair of the Nominating Committee of the Section of Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Shulman was a long-standing member of the American Heart Association Committee on Rheumatic Fever, Endocarditis, and Kawasaki Disease, and has served as Chair of that committee. He is Secretary-Treasurer of the Lancefield Society. Dr. Shulman is President of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society.
Dr. Shulman has been a visiting professor and invited speaker nationally and internationally and has authored about 200 peer-reviewed publications, more than 60 book chapters, and has edited or co-authored six books in the area of infectious diseases. Dr. Shulman has recently been Co-Editor, Concise Reviews of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and serves on the editorial board of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal. He is a congenital Detroit Tigers fan and an adopted Chicago Bulls fan.
